Bucs’ Baker Mayfield wins NFC Player of the Week again

For the second time in three weeks, Mayfield was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after passing for 359 yards and five touchdowns in the Bucs’ 48-14 win over Carolina on Sunday.

Mayfield also was honored after passing for 288 yards and four touchdowns in a 40-17 win over the Chargers in Los Angeles on Dec. 15.

”He really played a heck of a ballgame, intelligently,” head coach Todd Bowles said of Mayfield’s performance against Carolina. “We didn’t turn it over offensively. Very good on third down and he controlled the ball. Spread it around. Got everybody touches and he played a very good ballgame.”

Mayfield was so efficient against the Panthers that he finished with as many incomplete passes (five) as touchdowns (five). In fact, Mayfield became the first quarterback since 2019 to complete more than 80% of his passes while throwing for 350 yards or more and five or more touchdowns.

He is tied for second in passing touchdowns (38), is second in completion percentage (71.7) and his 4,279 passing yards are the fifth most in club history.

Mayfield threw a pair of touchdowns Sunday to receiver Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan, who has six in his past four games.
