Adrien Broner urged to retire as off-the-rails lifestyle continues

The four-weight world champion, who signed with Don King in March 2023 on the promise of another world title run, has failed in his mission. Fighting twice in the period since Broner defeated part-time lawyer/boxer Bill Hutchinson on points before losing to also-ran Blair Cobbs.

Broner has continually posted about his desire to go to the club and most recently revealed his eating habits are nothing to be desired. ‘The Problem’ remains a regular at fast food spots after a night of drinking and whatever else he gets up to, which won’t impress promoter King.

The pair have already failed to see eye-to-eye on certain subjects since their decision to collaborate, none less than when King put out a BOLO on Broner stating he may or may not attend the press conference for the Cobbs fight. Broner did and was subsequently roasted by his opponent.

To compound his misery, Cobbs pulled off a shocking victory and has since been parading around with the WBC ‘People’s Champion Belt,’ designed as a one-off showpiece for the winner. Cobbs didn’t get that memo and is not the titleholder in his world.

A rematch between the pair should have been on the cards to give Broner a shot at redemption, but it seems that since he got paid by King, it’s back to the daily struggles for the Cincinnati native.

It’s hard to believe that Broner is still only 35, as his fall-off since 2019 has been spectacular. After gaining a career-high payday from a clash with Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand, Broner has fought only three times and aged ten years in five. His penchant for wild nights out and hanging around with those who take his attention away from the sport is where the problem seemingly lies.

At the age of 28, Broner had reigned in four weight classes and was a shoo-in for a place in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. But if he retired now, who knows if Adrien Broner would get in on a first-ballot status in three years.

Things could have been so different for the talented fighter, which is why his continued extracurricular activities disappoint whenever they rear their head.

Which at present is quite often.
